Dangerous Love by Momodou Sawaneh

Dangerous Love by Momodou Sawaneh is based on long-lived African traditions. You learn very well about arranged marriages and African lore in this story. It is based around Mary who is balking a traditional marriage and likes the “western ways” instead of the traditions. I was left with a suspicious feeling that this author has left open a situation that would make a wonderful sequel which I would greatly look forward to should Mr. Sawaneh decide to write on. I would be derelict in my duties if I didn’t recommend this novel to those that love a romantic story with murder and mayhem intertwined within it.

Under Cover Alien by Barbara Romo

Under Cover Alien by Barbara Romo tells us of aliens and UFOs. She winds the tale around believers and non-believers. Gideon Cyrus is an alien “undercover” until the time when he is to teach the world of the existence of aliens and UFOs. Abduction included…this Sci-fi story makes you wonder if “they” exist.
Hannah tries to keep her UFO believers safe and finds that she might be falling in love with someone who does not believe and is full of cynicism. Can she resist him? The romance that ensues tells us that she can overcome non-believers and their telltale cynicism.

I followed Ms. Romo’s depiction of aliens and UFOs throughout this controversial subject matter with a “grain of salt”. Whether you believe or not she allows you to enjoy the secretiveness of the alien and the believers. Reading this tome might encourage you to believe and you will find the romance side of it infatuating. Whether you believe or not you will find this an encouraging read of abductions, aliens and UFOs.

Unwise by Jane Toombs

In “Unwise” by Jane Toombs I find the age-old tradition of pre-arranged marriage an old storyline. However, Ms. Toombs combines it with a fantastical land of enchantment. Although a short story she has accomplished several plots within this novel that are believable and standard for a romance.

I feel that Ms. Toombs could have expounded on the “land of enchantment” a bit more as I expected to see more of it described in this story. All-in-all she achieved her goal that she set out to portray in this fantasy. Based on her standards of writing I feel she has met her goals. In regards to this being a fantasy I wish I had seen more although Ms. Toombs ties it in with the romance and pre-arranged marriage quite well. Fantasy readers might expect a bit more “fantasy” than what Ms. Toombs has provided. Avid fantasy readers might find this a bit lacking as I did.

In Tirnan ‘Oge by Amanda McIntyre we have a love story beyond a simple love story. Roan McNamara is not just in love with Sighoge faerie named Feorin but also in love with the love and passion that Roan has to tell the stories and legends of the faeries.

While I like the story in general I wish that the author could have told some of the faerie stories as background in the book. It is a well-written book however and those who like a fantasy/romance will enjoy Tirnan ‘Oge.

Lady of The Herd-Isabo Kelly

In Lady Of The Herd by Isabo Kelly, we find ourselves hoping that Diarmaid convinces Grace that she really is Grainne…a fairy that ran away from the faery world. You can feel that Grace doesn’t believe in the beginning of the story that she is Grainne and thinks Diarmaid is off their rocker. Then as she does some magic she starts to belive that she may in fact be Grainne.

I really wanted to like the story but I felt it lacking towards the end and left me wanting to know what happened to Grace when she reached the faery world.

Borrowed Time - MJ Daley-Prado

Borrowed Time by MJ Daley-Prado brings tears to your eyes in places. Ms. Daley-Prado accomplishes a depiction of one who goes through a part of their life handling someone in their family with cancer. This story tells of the “middle child” situation in this family in the typical “middle child” air. The trials and tribulations of this “middle child” and her cancer stricken mom tells a great tale of forgiveness and strength of character.

I highly recommend this read to those who believe in Christianity and for those who do not know the battles of cancer on families they should read this to find out about them.

In The Return by Jan Bowles, Marielle Stevens never thought her presumed dead husband would return back from the “dead”. Now she has a lot of explaining to do to her husband. First off can he forgive her for marrying his best friend? Secondly is that can he forgive her for not telling him about his daughter?

This book, at times, reminds me of Castaway the movie at times with various differences. The book is well written and has a couple of hot and steamy love scenes for those of us that love the hot stuff in a romance novel. The cute little father and daughter moments are so cute that it makes your heart melt.

Queen of Hearts by Phyllis Campbell

“Queen of Hearts” by Phyllis Campbell seemed vaguely familiar when I started this read. I found that Ms. Campbell’s twist of Cecilia being known as Doctor Lee Copeland being very suspenseful. I was kept in waiting to see when this would be discovered by the others. The discreetly written romance in this novel is tastefully done. I found this to be more of a romance than a western although it is set in the west in 1875. I did not see this as a historical western as the author has dubbed it although she has kept it in the western setting and was right on the money with her historical facts for that time. I feel this is more romance than any other genre. I look forward to reading more from this author and recommend this read to romance readers. Suspense and romance make a fine mix for this author!

The Tiny Caterpillar and the Great Big Tree by Kelly Moran

“The Tiny Caterpillar and the Great Big Tree” by Kelly Moran is a delightful tale that teaches the young ones about people being different and how we judge them at our very first impression. It teaches children that being different is okay. The apologies by the characters also teach the children that saying “I’m sorry” is not a bad thing and is easy to do.

The pictures coincide with what is going on at each interval that the caterpillar has with the various insects. I recommend this story to anyone with children. The adults that read this to their children will be teaching them a very valuable lesson and the pictures will amuse even the youngest of children. The adults may learn a bit of a lesson here as well.

Idle Thursday - Kelly Moran

In “Idle Thursday” Kelly Moran describes an “after-life” of someone taken from this earth way to early. She allows you to feel the dismay of watching yourself go through the death procedures. I found this story to be quite the typical story about being in limbo after death. She even mentions “the light” at one point.

I felt that I could cry at the beginning where the accident occurred. Feelings, emotions and the idealized progress this character made in her “after-life” does make you wonder what really does happen and Kelly Moran inserts her ideas about this. Her ideas are not beyond the norm.

I recommend this read to those that enjoy thoughts on the “after-life” we expect to have.

Hard Winter - N.W. Davies

Hard Winter

N.W. Davies

"Hard Winter" by N.W. Davies is a tale of survival. Set in England in the year 2118. An apocalyptic winter has occurred due to a nuclear war over oil in 2062. The nuclear winter that followed caused glacier ice to move south at an unprecedented speed. The survivors must not only battle frigid temperatures and the threat of starvation, but the things that are far worse moving ahead of the ice toward them, things that once were reserved for nightmares.

With "Hard Winter" N.W. Davies created a story that read like a full-length novel. So much was said with so very few words. Watching as Norman transformed from a selfish self-serving individual to a caring and possibly heroic figure was a fantastic journey. I was captured by this tale from the first sentence and was unable to pull myself free until I had finished. A well crafted tale. Absolutely one of the best I have ever read.

Irons in the Fire - Penelope Marzec

In “Irons in the Fire” by Penelope Marzec you will find a typical romance situation where the woman doesn’t want the man but finally falls for him. In regards to the “paranormal” part it seems lacking in the details of having psychic powers. I found the first almost 40 pages detailing many meals and various foods which, in my opinion, would be too much about food and not enough to set up the storyline. I expected a little more to come from this story but found it severely lacking enough subject matter to grasp this reviewer’s attention.

Although written well enough to maintain your attention to find out about the “paranormal” story it really isn’t much to read in the storyline. Maybe this reviewer missed the gist of the story but it took a long time to set it up and frankly I didn’t want to be bored that long.

The author does have exciting conversations within the story and some very descriptive details. As far as paranormal romance it took a long time to get to this and I feel that anyone reading paranormal romances expects to find something about it within the first 50 pages that would grasp their attention and keep it excitingly different. This author did not do that.

From Mountains of Ice - Lorina Stephens

Unlike many fantasy stories, Lorina Stephens’ “From Mountains of Ice” tells more than just a single narrative centering around a hero or group of adventurers in a magical world. Stephens tells the stories of Simare, an Italian country struggling to keep its simple rustic way of life free from the encroachment of larger countries and a crown’s tyranny. The understanding of cultural nuances serves as a foundation for the struggle of main characters.

Sylvio di Danuto comes from an old noble family and spent many years as advisor to his king and mentor to his prince. He also possesses the unique Simirian abilities of a ‘bone speaker’, a person who can commune with deceased ancestors through their remains. Sylvio and his family, friends and comrades must contend with the negligence and abuse of their country and kingdom by the young Principe Carmello. Political powers and the spirits of the ancestors arise in anger as the young ruler seizes power by pushing away, and yet never truly letting go of, Sylvio and others who would impede his hedonistic drive and approach to leadership. Sylvio realizes that he must act if his country and everything he loves should survive.
Stephens’ tale takes her reader through an exploration of the bonds between love and hate, darkness and hope, and the power of resilience that leaves an impression as lasting as Simare’s “mountains of ice”. The concept of a “bone speaker” stretches one’s imagination to go where it normally does not go to in every day life unless you are into these kinds of beliefs. This reviewer went there in her imagination and found she is quite pleased as to the way the author introduces this portion of the story and found it quite intriguing.

The ABRAXAS Series Books 1-3

Cinsearae Santiago has done a magnificent job at detailing a vampire’s life and the definitions involved in a vampire story.  “The ABRAXAS Series Books 1-3” is very detailed and has great imagination put into the various descriptions of situations throughout the novel.  This is not your typical vampire story as it includes a former girlfriend and a child born out of wedlock that died at birth.  The death was to be deferred by Natasha by creating a Necromancer (a zombie boy) for herself in denying her son’s death. Santiago grips you from the beginning with no names she described a feature-length situation creating Christine as Lady ABRAXAS and how she came about.

Right away there is a sexually explicit scene commonly found in vampire novels.  Lord ABRAXAS comes on strong to Christine Vargas as he believes her and feels that she is his “lady”.

Dartanian and Diane wreak havoc on this relationship. Battles unforeseen come about through their own devices.  They are defined as brother and sister and their bond is strong in their convictions.  The author has done a fine job of laying out these stories.

MY FINAL WORD AS A REVIEWER:

Gripping! Compelling! “The ABRAXAS Series Books 1-3” is an a-typical vampire story but not so a-typical with some of the points being human-like problems such as an ex-girlfriend with a child born out of wedlock that has been re-created as a Necromancer (zombie boy) because the boy had died at birth.  Natasha, Christine, Ryan, Dartanian, Diane and all the other characters seem to jump off the page in the action packed scenes provided by Santiago right from the beginning.  You really won’t want to stop reading this while its edge-of-the-seat tale unfolds.  Sexually explicit at times, these scenes were breathtaking and well done.  Vampire followers should follow ABRAXAS in its eternity of life and life-situations.

Just because I don’t agree with the theology it doesn’t mean that anyone interested in the battle of cancer and the battle with believing in their religion won’t enjoy it much better.

Review for Hidden Passages

Hidden Passages by Vila Spiderhawk is a set of small stories about a woman’s milestones in life. For example: birth, child, parent and death. The author pulls you into the storyline with great depth. For instance, you can imagine and almost smell the herbs. You can also feel the character thoughts and feeling in the last short story as she goes through birth to death. It was not what I normally like to read, however, I still love the way the author writes and look forward to reading more books by this author. I would recommend this book to my friends and family.

Review for Salvation Bride

Salvation Bride written by Anna Kathryn Lanier was a delight to read. Predictable as it was, I still found myself hoping that love would prevail and Sheriff Slade would put aside his stubbornness and just tell Laura how he felt. The twists and turns Ms. Lanier put her characters through were believable and I found myself smiling and happy at the end.

Ms. Lanier is a gifted writer with characters that make you laugh, cry and even make you angry. I, for one, will look for more books written by Ms. Lanier, so, grab a cup and sit a spell with Salvation Bride, this reviewer guarantees you won’t be disappointed.

Review for Living the Dream

In Tim Baker’s Living the Dream, Kurt thinks that a woman named Vicky is the cause of his entire problem so he hatches this plot to kidnap her and have her husband, Jimmy, pay the ransom. Except after he gets to Florida he finds his intended victim is away and that her husband wouldn’t pay the ransom, as he wants to divorce her. Jimmy’s mistress, Leslie, wants a piece of Kurt’s action. Kurt never knew a simple kidnapping would be so much work.

This reviewer liked the ending of the book however the beginning and the middle were a little dry for me. I loved the scenes with Kurt and Leslie where she would tell Kurt he didn’t know what he was doing. Over all it was a good book to read.

Review for Children of the Mist

Hywela Lyn creates a very vivid and wonderful world in Children of the Mist. Her characters have depth beyond any I have seen in a science fiction novel. She has the ability to give them souls in the literary sense, which is a rare talent. The extensive descriptions of the world she has created forms in the mind almost like the memory of a place once visited.

I enjoyed this story and felt as if it carried me along from beginning to end. There was no effort in trying to understand the plot and I found it to be a bit of a mystery as well. It was a journey well worth taking and I highly recommend this book as one of the best I have ever read.

I look forward to reading more books by this author.

Review for" Bullets + Bandages"

Robert Saniscalchi’s Bullets + Bandages is based on the lives of his brothers who served in Vietnam. It is a very realistic book that shows how life was for the soldiers that served. This reviewer loved the friendship with Doc and Sergeant Green. A must read for anyone that is interested in Vietnam.

Review for "As the Twig is Bent" By Joe Perrone Jr

Joe Perrone Jr.’s "As the Twig is Bent" is a wonderfully crafted novel that keeps the reader guessing as to the identity of the serial killer plaguing the Chelsea district of Manhattan. This reviewer found the novel to be engaging, but at times very graphic. The graphic nature of As the Twig is Bent may upset some people, but lends a bit of credibility to the story. I recommend this novel to adults who can handle the sexually explicit content, and who love a good murder/thriller.

Wild Heart - Shannon Nicole Wells

Wild Heart written by Shannon Nicole Wells was a wonderful story of families brought together by love and death in the 1880’s. Ms. Wells has a wonderful way of taking you to the edge of your seat as you root for the good guys and pray that the couples involved find the love that they are so deserving of. The portrayal of the Shewana finding Christ brought this reviewer to tears and was totally unexpected given the circumstances.

Wild Heart is a good story and with a competent editor, could have been a great read. I will definitely look for future books from this very gifted and talented author.

The Spike - Marilyn Thompson

Marilyn Thompson’s The Spike is one of the best novellas I have read in some time. This reviewer does like in general horror books and I found this one to grip me from beginning to end without being too gory. I loved the interaction between the old lady and Walter. It’s a great, quick read.

Sardanian Silver - A. Colin Wright

Sardinian Silver is a tale of love, life, and self-discovery. It explores the moral and social dilemmas that plague our society today. A. Colin Wright addresses these issues in an interesting way through the main character and his journey through Sardinia.

Although the story line is a bit slow at first, the pace is definitely picked up in the second half of the book. Wright's uncanny ability to “transport” his readers into the action by vividly describing the Sardinian countryside also makes this book an interesting read. I would recommend this book to anyone who is into a good romance novel.

Replay - Sally Odgers

"Replay" by Sally Odgers is a very well written story that has an unusual spin to time travel. The tale is a weave of several different eras with mini stories of the lives of the characters as they live through different centuries. I completely enjoyed reading this book and recommend it to anyone who likes to read fiction that spans time.

Deer And Tiger - Ayisha Blevins

In Deer and the Tiger by Ayisha Blevins, tells the story of the deer that live in the magical land of Twilight Door Wood. The story shows how the deer came to live there and how they fight to preserve their land and their way of life.

This reviewer finds that the basic idea would make a wonderful children’s book however right now the book needs a lot of work to make the story better and definitely needs editing. I saw no page numbers and numerous grammatical errors that would be fixed with editing. The story itself could use more interaction with the elves and the author needs to expand more on why Slash was banned from Twilight Door Wood.

Princess Andrea's Birthday Surprise - Ginny Christensen

Princess Andrea’s Birthday Surprise by Ginny Christensen is a heartwarming tale about what Andrea gets for her eighth birthday. I found this to be a really cute story for any little girl around the ages of 6 to 7 years old. Although there is a small editing issue I will be recommending this book to a school librarian that I know.

Guns, Horses and Death- The Life of a Wanted Man

Guns, Horses and Death- The Life of a Wanted Man
Marilyn Thompson

In Marilyn Thompson’s Guns, Horses and Death – The Life of a Wanted Man we watch as a young man reads the Diary of T. C. Cooper. T. C. Cooper is a man of many names and we learn that he is a wanted man for more than just a few things.

I wanted to love this book but I found it lacking in details. I thought the author could have gone more in depth on the character of T. C. Cooper and told more about his time with Lillie. Still for a novella it was a good, quick read.

Spanish Eyes - Phyllis Campbell

In "Spanish Eyes" by Phyllis Campbell is a remarkable story of strength, romance, and determination. The sexual tension between Rebecca and Anton is so well written you feel the emotions of both characters. The story has many well written subplots that give it a fullness rarely found in romance novels. Although the sexual interactions are very explicit they are tasteful and believable. I enjoyed reading this story so much I would like to see more novels featuring these characters. This is a strong 5 star book that does not disappoint. If you curl up with this one be prepared to swoon.

Outlaw Children: Sacrifice and Redemption - Marilyn Thompson

Outlaw Children: Sacrifice and Redemption
Marilyn Thompson

In “Outlaw Children:
Sacrifice and Redemption” Marilyn Thompson has spun a very incredible yet believable story about our world in the future. Her plot, characters, explanations and writing in the first person was spot on. I am generally not a big fan of this type of futuristic drama, but she had me hooked from the first chapter. I could not put it down! Her characters were vividly real and I found myself rooting for the Outlaw Children to survive and not be “erased” from this world.

Hard Winter - N.W. Davis

Hard Winter

Roses for Rachel

This book is a definite 5 Star read but can not receive the 5 Stars because of editing.
Should the author get this edition edited it is a definite 5 Star read.

Dianne Miley has created another inspiring tale with "Roses for Rachel". I found myself wishing that Crystal Falls were a real place so that I could move there and really get to know the people I was reading about. I felt myself becoming emotionally attached to the characters and very concerned about their relationships and well being. "Roses for Rachel" is a well written lesson on learning to forgive, not only other people but also ourselves.

has not only written a story but with "Lilacs for Laura" she as composed a symphony of the written word. Faith, love, fear, and intrigue blend together to create a wonderful story of overcoming the obstacles we put in our own paths. As I read, the lives of the characters in Crystal Falls came undone due to stubbornness, and inflexibility, but through their faith and love they were able to come through the many challenges they were faced with, emerging stronger and better.

Ginger Simpson

"Tender Return" by Ginger Simpson is a wonderfully done romantic love story set in south Texas during World War II. The characters of Megan and Ryan are so complete that I found myself pulled into their romance, holding my breath at every turn. The turmoil that Megan goes through when Ryan is shipped overseas brought tears to my eyes and I almost found myself praying for his safe return. Although I do not normally read romance novels, I found this one to be pleasurable and would recommend this story to anyone who enjoys reading.

Sparta Rose - Ginger Simpson

Sparta Rose
Ginger Simpson

In Sparta Rose by Ginger Simpson Roselle “Ellie” Fountain has two problems. One is the foreman, Tyler Bishop, who seems to be working his way into her father’s heart, and she thinks Ty wants her inheritance which is Fountain Ranch. She hates being a “woman” and wishes she were a man so that that she would finally win her father’s approval. It doesn’t help that she starts getting these strange feelings for Ty.

Her second problem is that the Bryant family wants her father’s ranch that he has worked so hard to build up. Jeb Bryant will use any means to get that ranch for his father, Duke Bryant. Will Ellie be able to win both her father’s respect and figure out how to save the ranch from the Bryants?

I have found this story to be extremely well written and the characters portrayed to be very lively. Ellie’s temper was fun to read about because it got her into a lot of vicarious situations. This reviewer found Ellie’s temper to be similar to her own and likes that she could laugh at it and empathize with her at the same time. This author is reminded of another author, Janet Oke, whom I enjoy as well. Janet would be proud of this writing.

Tales from the Shore - Metha Metharom

Tales from the Shore

By Metha Metharom

Metha Metharom explores the topic of Love once more in his book "Tales from the Shore", a new collection of short stories. However, much unlike "Love Stone", where the stories give us a discourse on HOW people fall in love, the stories cover three basic principles of WHERE love can be found.

For example, in "The Prospector and the Toucan Lady", we learn that love cannot be found in material possessions; it is found through personal sacrifice and selflessness. In "The Island and the Sea", we learn about not losing focus on the ones we care about in the search to find ourselves, and to be honest about our feelings. And in "The Crab and the Gull", we learn that love has no boundaries over racial, cultural, or gender difference.

Metha uses fairy-tale imagery to bring these themes to life. He presents these themes from a viewpoint we may never have even considered before, leaving with us a lasting impression on our minds, and gives us something to think about.

The only thing I found a little bit off-putting were the one-paragraph-pages, which made it very difficult to read, especially considering I had only access to an online copy and had to scroll down for AGES until I eventually got to the next line of text. Also, the thought of how many trees would have to die just so that this particular book could be printed made me cringe slightly.....

Overall though, this book definitely has my tick of approval, and is a great companion to read along with "Love Stone". I recommend it to anybody who is into a good romance novel, or even to those who are not into romance novels (such as myself), because there is a lot that you can get out of it.

Sisters in Time - Ginger Simpson

Sisters in Time
Ginger Simpson

Ginger Simpson has created a magnificent tale with "Sisters in Time". Taylor and Mariah are two very different women from two very different eras. In 2002 Taylor is a well educated successful attorney who is more concerned with business than with life or her husband David. Mariah on the other hand is the wife of a rancher in the 1870's and her world revolves around her husband Frank and their two children. When the two inexplicably exchange places they are forced to reevaluate their views on life. The experiences they have while living each others lives will change them both forever.
